CANNABIS, EDUCATION POLICY 876. Hon PETER FOSS to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health: I refer to the views expressed by Hon Nick Griffiths on 29 June 1995 that more urgent than getting rid of this unnecessary criminalisation was the need for an effective education program and to spend some real money on education programs to point out to the people of Western Australia who might otherwise contemplate using cannabis, that it has very bad effects indeed. (1) Does he agree with any part of this statement; if so, what part? (2) Does the Government have as a priority an intention to carry out a cannabis education program, especially to prevent the impression that may be created by allowing the growing of two cannabis plants and the extension of the amount of cannabis that may be possessed without incurring a criminal record? (3) If so, when will that education program commence? (4) What amount has the Government budgeted for it? (5) Under what item and program and at what page of the budget papers will that amount be found or is included? (6) If it is included, what is the amount included? (7) If the Government has not budgeted for it, where will the extra funding come from? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH
