Data was generated on 4 November 2014 and to that time clinical coding of the data was complete to 31 July 2014. Figures represent the number of separations (discharges) - one person may have multiple separations in the same calendar year.
Please note that the geographic location of a road accident cannot be identified using Department of Health data collections.  Consequently the responses that follow include data on all patients who were admitted to Busselton Hospital or Bunbury Regional Hospital as a result of a road accident, and does not represent accidents that only occurred in the South West region.
(a)(i-ii) Patients admitted and treated as a result of a road accident:
Hospital
2011
2012
2013
2014 (to 31 July)
Busselton
32
22
14
5
Bunbury
122
161
131
65
(b) Data includes patients who were transferred from Bunbury Regional Hospital to a public or private hospital. For patient confidentiality reasons, figures less than five have been suppressed.
Patients admitted to Bunbury Regional Hospital as a result of a road accident and transferred to a Perth metropolitan hospital:
2011 - 26
2012 - 33
2013 - 24
2014 - <5 (to 31 July 2014)
(c) In the period 2011 to 31 July 2014 less than five patients in each year were admitted to Busselton Hospital as a result of a road accident and were then transferred to Bunbury Regional Hospital. For patient confidentiality reasons, figures less than five have been suppressed.
(d) As the geographic location of a road accident cannot be identified using Department of Health data collections, it is not possible to determine how many people were transported by air directly to a metropolitan hospital following a road accident in the South West region.
