POLICE - RESIGNATIONS
I refer to the crisis that the Carpenter government has caused by its failure to settle the wage dispute with the hardworking and dedicated officers of Western Australia Police. (1) Can the minister confirm that there have been 20 resignations from WA Police since last Wednesday? (2) Can the minister confirm that this includes two British police officers recently recruited at the expense of the taxpayers of WA? (3) Can the minister also confirm that a third former British officer is currently absent from WA Police? Mr J.C. KOBELKE

(1)-(3) Again we have a question from the opposition that is couched in very false and misleading terms. There is clearly no crisis in WA Police. We know that members opposite - Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Mr J.C. KOBELKE : We know that members opposite like to say that they support the police. The SPEAKER : I call the Leader of the Opposition and the member for Murray to order. Mr J.C. KOBELKE : We know that members opposite like to say that they support the police, but in what they say and do, they try time after time to undermine our police, and they show no support for them. To make such a ludicrous statement shows that they have no interest in backing the WA Police for the wonderful job they do. The member for Hillarys has made allegations about people leaving. Only a couple of weeks ago, a member of the opposition said that three of the new police officers who had come from the United Kingdom had left WA Police. However, the commissioner said that not one of them had left. We have the same issue again today, with the opposition spreading false and misleading information and trying to undermine WA Police. The opposition should be ashamed of itself.
