SAWLOGS —
RECOVERY RATES
556. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the
minister representing the Minister for Forestry:
What is the average rate of recovery of sawn timber from
first and second-grade jarrah sawlogs and first and second-grade karri sawlogs?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
The average recovery rate of jarrah and karri sawn timber
varies depending on many factors, including the species' type and age;
the design of the sawmill and technology used for processing; the product that
is being processed from the log; the quality and size of the logs; and the
silviculture that has been applied to the area. The Forest Products Commission
does not have access to all sawmill returns and does not keep statistics on
recovery rates at an industry level.
