(1) Teachers in government secondary schools are appointed according to learning area, not according to a specific subject within the learning area. That is, teachers are appointed as mathematics teachers rather than teachers of calculus, discrete or applicable mathematics. Teachers of physics, chemistry and biology are appointed as science teachers and teachers of Japanese, Indonesian and Italian are appointed as LOTE teachers.
