The Minister for the Environment; Science has provided the following response: (a) No. The Brookdale Community Reference Group's (BCRG) current membership consists of four community members, one of whom is the Chair. The Chair is not paid. (i) No. Advertisements were placed in mid 2003 to select the original community members. At the request of the BCRG, the members who resigned during the two years the BCRG has been operating have not been replaced. The BCRG has now indicated that they would like to increase their membership and an expression of interest was placed in the BCRG's community newsletter, the Terminator, in July 2005. (b) The current BCRG commenced in August 2003 and consisted of nine community members and an independent Chair. Five community representatives and the independent Chair have resigned over a two year period. (c) 1 community member never attended a single BCRG meeting. 1 community member resigned in February 2004 due to increased employment commitments. 1 community member resigned in October 2004 however this has not been confirmed in writing. 1 community member resigned in November 2004 citing lack of trust in process and government. 1 community member resigned in July 2005 for personal reasons. The Independent Chair resigned in mid 2004 due to personal commitments. (d) Over the two years of the BCRG's operation, five members have resigned for a variety of seemingly unrelated reasons. Therefore there is no need for an investigation. (e) No action is required. The members of the BCRG hold varied opinions on a range of topics and do have differences of opinions. This diversity is natural and appropriate within a community reference group. However, all members are linked by their commitment to protecting the community's interests in the decommissioning of the Brookdale facility. (f) See (e) for answer. (g) $53,888.36
