APACHE ENERGY GAS PLANT EXPLOSION — COMPANIES EXPLOITING GAS CRISIS
I have a supplementary question. If a Western Australian firm feels that it has been subject to price gouging, to whom would it complain; and what actions has the Premier taken to inform such firms of the remedies available to small businesses? Mr A.J. CARPENTER

Such firms should complain to the appropriate investigative authority, which is the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. An energy supply committee, chaired by the Office of Energy, is working with the major players to make sure that the available energy supplies are known to both suppliers and consumers. There is also a recovery group, chaired by Mal Wauchope, to deal with the social and economic impacts flowing from the incident. If big, medium or small Western Australian firms are of the view that they are subject to improper business practices—price gouging, profiteering or anything else—I urge them report that to the appropriate authority, which is the ACCC.
