The SPEAKER : Just a question.
Mr R.S. LOVE : Will the
Premier apologise to them for his government's lack of action in
bringing the situation to a resolution?

There is no government that has
been more active in resolving the issues around housing challenges than my
government, whether it is by the rental assistance scheme, short-term rental
accommodation incentive scheme, the vacant
home scheme to bring more homes onto the market or our building loan
facilitation scheme to assist companies that are struggling with cash
flow to make sure they can access that cash to complete their clients'
homes.
I
note that the Leader of the Opposition was on the radio this morning making an
announcement that the opposition would significantly increase the
payouts available to building companies in relation to the builders' support facility. It will be the builders'
support facility on steroids, for the want of a better description—significantly expanded. I think that was irresponsible, inappropriate and unnecessary.
I draw the Leader of the Opposition's
attention to the fact that his own shadow housing minister, Hon Steve Martin, said of the builders' support facility, ''This
will do nothing for the people who have half-built homes and I think it
will be consigned to the dustbin.'' After Hon Steve Martin threw that
policy in the bin, the Leader of the Opposition was clearly then scurrying
around the dustbin looking for ideas. He pulled it out of the dustbin and said,
''Maybe we can parrot this policy. This policy seems to be landing a few
blows and getting a few people into their homes and resolving a few problems in
the housing industry. Maybe we should just copy that and add a few zeros and
pretend it is our policy.''
It is another example of how those
opposite are hopelessly conflicted. They do not know what they are doing; they
do not know what they are saying from one day to the next. We will continue to
point that out to the people of Western Australia. In this case, like many, the
Leader of the Opposition is all over the shop and he is just wrong.
