(1) I refer to the Government’s decision to re-route the Southern suburbs railway through South Perth-Como and Salter Point and ask has this decision been taken within the context of a single, master plan for the Perth metropolitan area?
(2) If not, how can such a decision be taken in isolation from the needs of other large sections of the outer metropolitan areas, such as Fremantle?
(3) Why does the Government lack a single, master plan?
(4) Are there not substantial dangers in decisions of this kind when ad hoc judgements are made for only portions of the metropolitan area?

(1) and (2) The Metropolitan Region Scheme and the Metropolitan Transport Strategy 1995-2029 provide the basis for a coordinated approach to transport planning and services and land use. However, it is the responsibility of Government to continually review and amend the plan as necessary to satisfy any changed circumstances.
(3) Not applicable.
(4) Yes - that is why there is an overall plan coordinating the planning for transport services and land use. It is also the reason why a supplementary Master Plan for the South West Metropolitan Railway is now being produced.
