WESTERN POWER, MINISTERIAL DIRECTION
As the minister spoke about legislation a short time ago, I refer to his direction to Western Power, which he tabled in Parliament yesterday, given under section 66(1) of the Electricity Corporation Act. (1) Can Western Power give immediate effect to this direction? (2) When does the minister expect it to do so? Mr RIPPER

(1)-(2) I gave the direction to Western Power following advice from the Office of Energy. The Office of Energy in turn took advice from Crown Law on the nature of the direction. I have been advised by Western Power that some changes to regulations will be required as well, and Western Power, pursuant to the direction, is assisting with the drafting of the necessary regulations. I issued the direction because I wanted the uniform tariff benefit for medium to large regional consumers of power to be extended as soon as possible. I am working with Western Power to that end.
