ALBANY REGIONAL HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT — MATERNITY SECTION
As a supplementary question, does it not embarrass the minister that staff are complaining about a lack of consultation four years after the minister was supposed to start? Mr J.A. McGINTY

Without repeating what I have already said, the work on the Albany Regional Hospital redevelopment will commence and be well and truly underway this year. In addition, Albany has recently had the good fortune, as the only place in country Western Australia, to secure additional funding of $4.4 million from the commonwealth to assist in dealing with elective surgery. We got a total of about $14 million. Albany hospital is dedicated to building a day-surgery facility with additional beds, which will also take pressure off the surgical ward and therefore benefit the maternity services at the hospital. Courtesy of the federal government’s injection of capital funds to assist with the elective surgery program, Albany hospital will be a major beneficiary.
