KARRATHA —
UNDERGROUND POWER PROJECT
1049. Hon HELEN BULLOCK to the Minister for Energy:
I refer to the minister's answer to question without
notice 1014 and media reports that the Shire of Roebourne can afford to
contribute only its budgeted $21 million to the Karratha underground power project.
(1) Once the
current stage of the Karratha project is complete, is it the government's
intention that further work not continue until a commitment of further funds is
received from the Shire of Roebourne?
(2) If the
government intends to proceed with the project without a further funding
commitment from the shire, will the minister commit to funding the full cost of
the remaining stages of the project?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1)–(2)
Horizon Power, in conjunction with the Pilbara underground power project
steering committee, is discussing future funding arrangements with all project
partners, including the Shire of Roebourne. Any additional government funding
allocation will be subject to future budget processes.
