I refer for the need to cart water into the township of Northcliffe and I ask: (a) what is the impediment to a permanent water supply being installed in the town; and (b) If none, when do you anticipate that this will occur? If yes, what measures are being taken to overcome these impediments?

(a) The drinking water demand for Northcliffe is less than 20 million litres per year (approximately 100 water services). Water carting, at around a quarter of the cost of piped supply from Pemberton, continues to be the most cost effective option for providing Northcliffe with a safe drinking water supply.
(b) The Water Corporation recently completed a long-term planning study across the South West,
Water Forever: South West
, investigating future water supply options for towns across the South West including Northcliffe.
This study reviewed several longer-term water supply options in Northcliffe; however due to the low population of the town and projected water demand, carting remains the most cost-effective option for providing Northcliffe's drinking water supply.
