MINERALS AND ENERGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF WA
The Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia (MERIWA) consists of 3 part-time employees. Due to the small size of the Institute matters concerning (1), (2), (3) and (4) will be addressed on an individual basis as required.
WESTERN POWER
(1) Western Power's Disability Access Inclusion Plan allows for information to be provided in large print or in audio format, on request. Translation services are available for customers who do not speak or read English, while those who speak English but have difficulty reading or writing are encouraged to telephone Customer Services for a verbal explanation of forms, polices etc.
(2) Aside from the above, Western Power has no specific assistance for people who have left school with low literacy skills due to dyslexia.
(3) No funding has been allocated for research, policies or programs specifically to assist people with dyslexia.

DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRY AND RESOURCES
(1) The Department of Industry and Resources provides development opportunity for its staff to ensure that they are able to effectively carry out their duties in a dynamic environment. Any staff with reading and writing difficulties that affect their ability to carry out their duties would be offered these development opportunities.
(2) The Organisational Development Branch of the Department would assess the needs of any employee who is unable to perform their duties due to dyslexia with a view to providing assistance to enable that employee to carry out their responsibilities.
(3) Funding for this purpose would be provided from within the Department's existing budget allocation on an as needs basis.
(4) The Department's Organisational Development Branch is responsible for the development of specific policies and programs for the development of staff and also undertakes any research in this regard.
VERVE ENERGY
(1) Verve Energy assesses applicants where literacy is a key requirement of the job at entry point, to ensure their literacy level is to the required standard.
Other than that, where employees are identified as requiring literacy assistance, appropriate training is arranged. In the interim, key aspects of the job and other information, especially regarding safety, are conveyed verbally.
(2) Training is available as required.
(3) No specific funding is provided for programs that assist dyslexia at Verve Energy apart from that which is included under general training budgets.
(4) Human Resources is responsible for the overall Training and Development policy. The employee's immediate supervisor is responsible for identifying any specific literacy training needs, and seeks appropriate assistance for the employee through Human Resources and our Employee Development Centre.
HORIZON POWER
1) Horizon Power has no specific reading or writing policies or procedures in place. Individuals can be provided with appropriate assistance on an as needs basis.
2) Within Horizon Power there is no specific assistance available for employees who have left school with low literacy skills due to dyslexia.
