NORTH WEST SHELF
EXTENSION PROPOSAL — ASSESSMENT
1369. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the Minister Assisting the Minister for State
and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade:
I refer to Woodside's proposal
to extend the operating life of the North West Shelf export facility, Australia's
largest gas export project, for a further 46 years.
(1) Has the
government undertaken an analysis to investigate the impacts of the proposed
North West Shelf extension project on the state's domestic gas market?
(2) If yes to
(1), will the government table the results of that analysis?
(3) If no to (1),
why has no such analysis been undertaken?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) The
government has not commissioned analysis on the impact of the extension of the
North West Shelf gas project on the state's domestic gas market.
However, it is recognised that the North West Shelf facility is critical infrastructure to enable investment in
new export projects and, by extension, additional domestic gas supply
for the state.
