parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to adolescent and children's mental health
beds in Western Australian hospitals.
(1) How many
adolescent and children's mental health beds are available in Western
Australia and where are they located?
(2) How many
of these beds are available for children and how many for adolescents?
(3) Once the
new Perth Children's Hospital opens, how many adolescent and children's
mental health beds will be available in Western Australia and where will they
be located?
(4) How many
of these beds will be available for children and how many for adolescents?
(5) How many
mental health beds for children and adolescents are located outside the
metropolitan area and where are they located?

question.
(1)–(2)
There are currently 20 acute beds dedicated to children and adolescents under
the age of 18 years. They are all in the metropolitan area. There are eight acute
unauthorised beds at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, ward 4H, for
children and adolescents under 16 years of age; 12 acute authorised beds at
Bentley adolescent unit, Bentley Hospital Campus, for children and adolescents
under 18 years of age. There are also six subacute beds at Pathways
residential, Bentley Hospital Campus, for children under 13 years of age.
(3) There will
be 20 acute beds for young people under the age of 16 years at the new Perth
Children's Hospital and six subacute beds at Pathways residential,
Bentley Hospital Campus.
(4) There will
be 20 acute beds at the Perth Children's Hospital for young people
under the age of 16 years and six subacute beds at Pathways residential,
Bentley Hospital Campus, for children under 13 years of age.
(5) There are
no child mental health beds outside the metropolitan area. The WA Country
Health Service has 59 specific adult mental health beds for people aged 18 years
and over. These beds are located in Albany, Broome, Bunbury and Kalgoorlie.
