(1) Can the Parliamentary Secretary advise how many World Heritage reserves there are in Western Australia and provide a list of each one and their locations? (2) What is the total area of all World Heritage reserves in Western Australia and the area of each individual World Heritage reserves? (3) Are all World Heritage reserves quarantined from mining exploration and/or mineral extraction? (4) If no to (3), which World Heritage reserves allow mining and/or mineral extraction and why? (5) Are all World Heritage reserves quarantined from oil and gas exploration and/or oil and gas extraction? (6) If no to (5), which World Heritage reserves allow oil and gas exploration and/or oil and gas extraction and why? (7) Are there plans to add further World Heritage reserves in Western Australia and if so, where are these to be located, what is the proposed area of each and what is the proposed reservation class? (8) Are there plans to increase the area of some existing World Heritage reserves and if so which ones and what is the proposed increased area of each one?

(1) There are four World Heritage sites in Western Australia, three of which are listed for their natural values and managed under the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 (CALM Act). There are no reserves with a purpose of World Heritage managed under the CALM Act. The World Heritage sites are:
Ningaloo Coast – Pilbara region
Shark Bay – Midwest region
Purnululu National Park– Kimberley region
Australian Convict Sites: Fremantle Prison – Swan region. This World Heritage site is managed by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. (2) The total area of World Heritage sites in Western Australia is 3,145,647 hectares, being Ningaloo Coast (705,015 hectares), Shark Bay (2,200,902 hectares) Purnululu National Park (239,723 hectares) and Fremantle Prison (7 hectares). (3) No. (4) All public reserves are subject to the statutory provisions relating to consent for mining and grant of mining leases by the Minister for Mines and Petroleum, as set out in the Mining Act 1978. (5) No. (6) All public reserves are subject to the statutory processes relating to consent for entry to reserves for petroleum activities as set out in the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967. (7) The McGowan Government has announced its intention to nominate the existing Murujuga National Park and the Dampier Archipelago as a World Heritage site. The proposed area and reservation class have not been finalised. (8) No.
