WHEATSTONE LNG PROJECT — STATE AGREEMENT —
ACCOMMODATION
616. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the accommodation village broken promise to the
people of Onslow and the Premier's reasoning that it saves a
25-kilometre drive each way to the gas plant. How is this any different from
the situation in Karratha, which is located more than 25 kilometres from the
North West Shelf gas processing facilities, and to and from which gas plant
workers have commuted for many years?

I thank the member for Cannington for the question, which
should have been directed to the minister responsible for state agreements—that
is, the Minister for State Development. As Minister for Mines and Petroleum, I
am purely responsible for regulating the industry, and I have not been involved
in any of the agreements between the government and Chevron.
