(2) The longest wait time (this year) a learner driver has been required to wait for a Practical Driver Assessment was 19.3 weeks (96 working days) recorded on Monday 20 March 2006. Booking availabilities fluctuate considerably due to a number of factors including, the level of public demand, the number of cancellations and seasonal factors such as end of school year, school holidays etc. To address the length of the current wait times to obtain a driving assessment, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) has completed the recruitment of an additional ten (10) contract driving assessors. This will result in a noticeable reduction in waiting times. DPI is also considering options to address this problem on an ongoing basis, including the appointment of additional permanent driving assessors.
