Will the Premier confirm whether he has responded to a letter from a group of Western Australian dentists expressing concern about resources for public dentistry? Dr G.I. GALLOP

I preface my answer to that question by congratulating Western Australian cyclist, Ryan Bayley, for winning an Olympic gold medal last night. He is the first Western Australian to win an individual Olympic gold medal since Lyn McClements back in 1968. I am sure that I speak on behalf of all Western Australians when I congratulate Ryan on his tremendous race. It is good to hear that the Opposition has a bit of a voice. Not too long ago - about two minutes ago - it barely managed a cricket team in the Parliament. The members for Stirling, Roe, Ningaloo, Moore, Dawesville, Kingsley, Murdoch and Murray-Wellington are all retiring. Gee whiz, the Opposition has its big guns in Parliament today! One member of the Liberal Party who is recontesting the next election is the member who represents the south west constituency, the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party. Whenever he asks a question in this Parliament that contains information, I always warn members to never take anything he says at face value. A clear example of why that is so can be found in yesterday’s The Australian in which he is reported as stating - . . . the Premier has not even had the courtesy to reply to their letter. Of course, he was referring to the letter that a group of dentists sent the Government. Both the Minister for Health and I received a copy. I was also sent another letter later on. That letter was replied to. Ms K. Hodson-Thomas: When? Dr G.I. GALLOP: The member for Carine has asked when. I repeat; this is what the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party said - It is appalling the Minister for Health has refused to meet them and it is appalling the Premier has not even had the courtesy to reply to their letter. I did reply to that letter. Yet again, the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party has misled the people of Western Australia, which is what he does on all occasions. Several opposition members interjected. Dr G.I. GALLOP: The Opposition is trying to slither its way out of this by asking when! That is typical of the Liberal Party. I warn the media to double-check whatever the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party says, because he has form in misleading the people of Western Australia.
