Fuel supply—Mining operations
147. Mr Shane Love to
the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. The Premier refers to short-term supply issues, but
with the growing backlog of shortages throughout regional WA, this is turning
into a long-term situation. Why is there this difference between what the
Premier describes in his public statements and what industry is experiencing on
the ground?

As I detailed in my brief ministerial statement
earlier today, industry is on the fuel industry operational group, so we
are meeting with them literally daily—
Mr Lachlan Hunter: Every day?
Mr Roger Cook: Yes, we are meeting every day to
understand their needs and to continue to work with them to identify the areas
where we have the most acute shortages. We are triaging their requests to
ensure that we get fuel to those areas that need it most. I reflect on the
statements from the chief executive officer of the Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Western Australia, Aaron Morey, who said today that the state government
had worked "very quickly and proactively" to get fuel to those who
needed it.
