ABORIGINAL HERITAGE LEGISLATION AMENDMENT AND REPEAL BILL
2023 — DEBATE
463. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
I have a supplementary question. How
will the government facilitate comprehensive consultations with vital
stakeholders like farmers, miners and Aboriginal land groups on the amendments
before they are introduced?

AnswerView source ↗

We have been listening and
consulting for a long time. That is why we brought in the amendments yesterday.
I appeared in front of the farmers gathered outside Parliament yesterday. They
were very respectful. They listened. I did not hear a groundswell of protest
about what we intend to do. Even the Leader of the Opposition has come out in support of the changes. I did not hear but
I am told that the member for Central Wheatbelt was on ABC Radio National this morning and she came out in support of the proposed changes. We
will have a proper debate. There will not be any guillotine or gagging. The
proper process will be followed and the government will continue with the
consultation as it has done up to now.
