I refer to the unsatisfactory situation of injured bushfire volunteer Pamela Story and I ask:
(a) what steps has the Minister put in place to ensure that other volunteers who might be injured do not face similar difficulties accessing compensation;
(b) has the Minister approached or made representations to the Attorney-General to facilitate an
ex gratia
payment to Ms Story;
(c) if so, when and what was the result of those representations; and
(d) if not, why not?

(a) FESA is currently reviewing all Western Australian emergency services legislation with the aim of combining this legislation into a single Emergency Services Act covering all emergency services in Western Australia. Entitlements of employees and volunteers will be reviewed as part of this process to ensure consistency across services.
(b) No.
(c - d) Compensation for personal injury arising out of work undertaken as a Bush Fire Service volunteer is covered under local government insurance arrangements. This matter is currently subject to a dispute resolution process between Ms Story and the insurance company.
