DEPARTMENT
OF EDUCATION — BUDGET
182. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. Instead of denigrating teachers across Western
Australia with those rubbery and ridiculous figures —
Several members
interjected.
The SPEAKER : I cannot hear the Leader of the Opposition, so I ask him to repeat
his question.
Mr M. McGOWAN : Instead of denigrating teachers across
Western Australia with those rubbery figures —
Several members
interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for Carine, I call you to order for the first time; and,
Minister for Corrective Services, I call you to order for the first time. I
want to hear the supplementary question. I have not heard it.
Mr M. McGOWAN : Instead of denigrating teachers across
Western Australia with those rubbery and unscientific figures, why does the
Premier not —
Several members
interjected.
Mr M. McGOWAN : Once again, instead of denigrating teachers

cuts to individual school budgets?

All members in this
chamber would have heard my comments. Did I denigrate teachers? No! Once again,
the reason that the person opposite me will never be Premier of Western
Australia is that he always tries to spin the truth—he always does! He
can never come out with a straightforward point of view.
Several members
interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for Cannington, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr C.J. BARNETT : I would have thought —
Mr J.R. Quigley interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for Butler, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr C.J. BARNETT : I would have thought that a teacher who
felt so concerned—I do not doubt there is concern in schools; I do not
dismiss that for a moment—as to register to take the day off to be on
strike would have had a level of concern to actually attend the rally; half of
them did not!
