FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL — SERCO CONTRACT —
STERILISATION PROCEDURES
255. Mr R.H. COOK to the Minister for
Health:
I ask a supplementary question. The
minister has said today that he made this decision without knowing the cost
implications for taxpayers. Will the minister today commit to come forward and
explain why a fine has not been imposed in relation to this matter; and will
the costs to taxpayers be offset against the costs of the contract?

AnswerView source ↗

The advice I have is that there is
no additional cost to the contract that will affect taxpayers. That will need
to be determined, and—who knows?—that may be determined through
the courts. But at present there is no additional cost.
Several members interjected.
Dr
K.D. HAMES : It is because the money that is there now and that pays for the
service will continue to pay for the service. Instead of that money being used
to pay SercoXXX ###XXXs staff, it will be used to pay
our staff.
