(1) Will the Minister please advise how many hectares of State Forest have been thinned in the Collie Recovery Catchment in each of the following years -
(a) 1998-1999;
(b) 1999-2000;
(c) 2000-01;
(d) 2001-02;
(e) 2002-03; and
(f) 2003-04?
(2) If different methods or levels of intensity of thinning were used, please provide a breakdown of the figures in each case.
(3) Has any monitoring of the results occurred, including -
(a) subsequent growth and regrowth of the native vegetation including non-commercial species;
(b) impacts on native and feral fauna species;
(c) changes in water table levels;
(d) salinity and other water quality aspects of run-off from the thinned areas; and

The following table summarises areas of State forest recorded as thinned in the Collie Recovery Catchment by calendar year between 1998 and 2003 inclusive. Data for 2004 will not be available until 2005. Harvest Year Net Area (ha) 1998 70 1999 19 2000 57 2001 0 2002 4 2003 0 In addition to these areas, other areas within the catchment have been harvested to a mixed silvicultural objective, which may include smaller patches of thinning. (2) Different levels of thinning intensity may have been used, in accordance with the Silvicultural Guidelines, but data is not available for differences in thinning intensity for jarrah. No wandoo thinning was recorded within the area and time period concerned. (3-5) The Forest Products Commission is not aware of monitoring of the types mentioned in respect to the specific areas involved. Most of the responses listed are likely to occur due to management practices over broader areas, and to be monitored or researched on a similar basis. Such monitoring or research may have been conducted in locations other than the Collie Recovery Catchment.
