I refer to the bulk-billing general practice at Fremantle
Hospital being forced to close on 3 April. Given that this is one of the few
bulk-billing practices in the area, what is the estimated increase in emergency
department presentations when the practice closes?

I thank the member for some notice of this question. It is
not known what the impact on the hospital's emergency department will
be when the practice closes. The South Metropolitan Area Health Service has
requested information from the hospital general practice about its service
delivery and is waiting for this information to be provided. The hospital
general practice has indicated that it will provide key patient information by
31 March 2012 but has declined the involvement of the local GP network to
assist it with this task.
