EDUCATION
RESOURCES — ARMADALE SCHOOLS
452. Dr A.D. BUTI to the Premier:
I refer the Premier
to his response to a caller to 720 ABC radio on the morning of 4 September
2013, in which he stated —
If
I have to make a decision, which I do, do I put some of those resources into
Armadale, or do I leave them in a fantastic school like Mount Lawley? And there's
lots of other schools like Mount Lawley, which way would you go, Jenny? You'd
have to do what I'm doing
(1) Is the Premier saying he will exempt schools in the Armadale area
from his education cuts?
(2) What additional resources will flow through to schools in Armadale?
(3) Which specific schools in Armadale will receive additional
resources?

(1)–(3) In education, Armadale is one
of the areas I regard as disadvantaged in what is provided to students and in
their success level in completing year 12 and progressing into tertiary education;
in fact, in almost every criteria. It is interesting that during the eight
years the Labor Party was in government it did virtually nothing in Armadale.
Labor governments completely ignored Armadale.
Several members
interjected.
Mr C.J. BARNETT : I visited Armadale last week with the
Minister for Local Government and we met with the Armadale city council. One of
the issues that we discussed was improving education in Armadale. With the
Minister for Education, I intend to visit both the Fremantle and Armadale areas
in the next few weeks to look at revamping education and technical training in
those areas. It is a pity that when the Labor government was in power it did
not address needs in its own constituencies.
