LAND DEVELOPMENT - SOUTH EASTERN CORRIDOR
Can the minister provide details of the government’s latest land development initiative in Perth’s south eastern corridor? Mrs M.H. ROBERTS

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the question and for his interest in the development of land for housing within the south eastern corridor. As members may be aware, our government has committed to a $450 million joint venture project with major developer Stockland to open up 312 hectares of land for housing at Brookdale. Up to 2 600 lots will be developed. They will range in size from the small villa lots of 170 square metres, to cottage lots of 300 square metres and to so-called lifestyle lots of 800 to 1 000 square metres. The smaller lots will combine a variety of housing styles catering for young couples, singles and empty-nesters who are seeking affordable, low-maintenance homes. One in 12 lots at Brookdale will be available for public housing, and that will include housing for seniors and disabled tenants. In conjunction with Stockland, the government will create a new community with a town centre, serviced commercial land, mixed business, schools, retail centres and medical centres. The development will include five distinct neighbourhoods, community facilities and a range of recreational and parkland areas. The Brookdale project builds on the governments’ other successive land developments done in partnership, including Ellenbrook, Dalyellup Beach, Brighton, Woodrise, Mevé, Somerlie, Wellard, Banksia Grove and Seacrest. Through Brookdale and its other land developments, the state government will release thousands of lots. The SPEAKER : I call the member for Cottesloe to order for the third time. Mr J.N. Hyde interjected. Dr K.D. Hames interjected. The SPEAKER : I call the member for Perth to order for the first time, and the member for Dawesville to order for the second time. Mr J.N. Hyde interjected. The SPEAKER : I call the member for Perth to order for the second time. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS : The 2 600 lots that will be brought on the market at Brookdale will add to the many thousands of lots that the government is bringing onto the market through the Department of Housing and Works with its joint venture developers. The government is about enabling more Western Australians to enjoy the dream of owning their own home and for it to become a reality for them. We want to ensure that there is an adequate supply for those young people and others for many years to come.
