Hon Rob Horstman inquired about the key findings and public release of the $8 million Perth-Bunbury fast rail link strategic business case. The government's response focused on the recommencement and upgrades of the Australind train service, not directly addressing the fast rail business case.

Transport—Perth–Bunbury rail link
475. Hon Rob Horstman to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the $8
million state and federal government–funded strategic business case for a fast
rail link between Perth and Bunbury that was completed in late 2024 and since
listed by the federal government as "project finalisation is in progress".
(1) What were the key findings of this
business case?
(2) Will the government release the
business case to the public?
(3) If yes to (2), when will that happen?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(3) The government's priority is the
progressive recommencement of the Australind train service from 29 June 2026. More than $160 million in four new Australind trains and $45 million in operational
funding has been provided to support both an uplift in the resilience and
frequency of rail services between Perth and the South West.
