(1) Given that funds were allocated previously from consolidated revenue for a seismic survey for the Dandaragan hydrology monitoring project, will the money be released for the completion of the survey; and, if so, when? (2) If the answer to the first question is no, why have the funds not been released for this important project, the results of which will benefit the West Midland hydrology and biodiversity project? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The original application to the Australian National Seismic Imaging Resource to conduct the survey was made in February 2000. It was indicated that consolidated revenue funds would be available. ANSIR’s availability to carry out the Dandaragan survey depended on it conducting two other surveys in the region. Negotiations for these other surveys failed, and ANSIR was not able to carry out the Dandaragan survey and was unable to confirm when it could do it. Over the two subsequent budget cycles the funds have been allocated to other activities.
