WADE SCALE - DEPARTMENT FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CASEWORKER
I refer to Wade Scale’s death. (1) At the time of his death, what qualifications did his caseworker have? (2) How long had he/she been the child’s caseworker? (3) How long had he/she worked for the department? (4) Had he/she undertaken the eight-week departmental training course? Hon KATE DOUST

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question.  The Minister for Community Development has provided the following response - (1) The caseworker held a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Edith Cowan University. (2) The officer commenced case management of Wade’s case on 16 May 2003. (3) The officer undertook a casual contract with the department between 13 January 2003 and 7 February 2003.  She recommenced employment with the department on 12 May 2003. (4) No.  The first eight-week program commenced on 20 February 2006.  These training programs are evidence that the government has taken action to strengthen practice on behalf of the children of this state who come to the attention of the department.
