With regard to the trace-line to enable survey work for a road between the Broome-Cape Leveque Road and the proposed gas hub site on James Price Point, -
(1) Is the Department of State Development proposing or authorising the proposed trace-line clearance?
(2) Will this clearing be taking place on land subject to the Goolarabaloo Jabirr Jabirr native title claim?
(3) If yes to (1), -
(a) will or has the Department of State Development be seeking or sought a clearing permit or clearance for this work from the Department of Environment and Conservation and the Department of Indigenous Affairs; and
(b) will the Department of State Development be relying on Department of Transport state-wide purpose permit CPS 818/4 to carry out this work?
(4) When will the clearing commence, or will the Government wait until an implementation decision has been made in relation to the Browse LNG Hub, before commencing this work?

(3)(a) Main Roads Western Australia has obtained a clearing permit from the Department of Environment and Conservation. The Department of State Development and Main Roads Western Australia are working with the Kimberley Land Council and Traditional Owners to avoid heritage sites. Traditional Owners will be present to monitor during the establishment of the trace-line, so no Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 approvals are required at this point.
(b) No.
(4) Clearing will commence at the earliest opportunity subject to weather constraints and the availability of Traditional Owners for heritage monitoring purposes. Clearing will be undertaken using mulch to minimise environmental impacts by avoiding disturbance to vegetation rootstock and allowing plant regrowth following surveys.
