Minister for Homelessness—100-day anniversary445.Hon Simon Ehrenfeldto theMinister for Homelessness:My question is
without notice, and given the disruption during question time, I am happy to
put it on notice if required. It is fairly straightforward.(1) Noting that this week will mark the Minister
for Homelessness's first 100 days since his appointment, what have been the
most notable improvements since responsibility for this area was removed from
the Minister for Housing?(2) Has the federal government's creation of a
Special Envoy for Social Housing and Homelessness during this time made any
difference to the state government's efforts? The President:That is a question without notice, of
which no notice has been given.

Hon Matthew Swinbourn replied:(1)–(2) There
is a number of elements to that question, some of which would probably have
been better put onthe question without notice system, however we describe
it. I think some of the important areas in development are the recent funding
uplift in the state budget, which is an important element for increasing our
support for homelessness services. I remember one of the very first things that
I was involved in was the launch of the—its name escapes me—online
portal system that we have developed for homeless services to be able to
register the details of homeless people in line with our No Wrong Door policy.
That was very early on and is a really important thing to be able to give to
not retraumatise homeless people. I made a statement to Parliament at that
particular time. In relation to the Commonwealth government's envoy, I have not
yet had any personal contact with them. I cannot confirm at this stage whether
there has been contact from them in relation to my office, but the federal
government is still, I think, getting its feet under the desks in some of these
particular areas. We would absolutely look forward to engaging with our envoy
because whatever we can do to help with the homeless situation we will be
certainly keen to see what measures we can do. A number of different things
have happened over that time. We just had a motion earlier today in which we
talked about the homeless portfolio and there is a whole lot of things that we
are doing in this area, but we continue to look forward to the things that we
can continue to do to help alleviate homelessness in this state.
