I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) The
trains consist of many components and then a chassis and a body, with
componentry being manufactured in various places around the world. The trains
are constructed and put together in Maryborough, Queensland. This is the same
arrangement as every electric railcar that has been purchased to date for the
Transperth system, both A-series and B-series. The current supply contract
states that passenger seating and interior window filming is supplied here in Western
Australia; that equates to around two per cent of the total manufacturing work.
The final fit-out, commissioning and warranty works for the railcars will also
be completed in WA, with railcar maintenance then being undertaken locally.
Approximately 15 local Western Australian jobs will be used for this order.
