ROYALTIES
FOR REGIONS — MID WEST INVESTMENT PLAN
398. Mr R.S. LOVE to the
Minister for Regional Development:
It was a pleasure to have the minister visit my electorate
recently and to show him how my community has benefitted from royalties for regions.
Can the minister please give the house some examples of the royalties for
regions investments made under the Mid West Investment Plan?
The SPEAKER :
Minister, you have got two minutes. We want an upper house answer!

AnswerView source ↗

Thanks, Mr Speaker. I will make it
really quick. I am not used to these upper house answers.
I thank the member for Moore for the
question. It was a fantastic chance just recently to do a tour of his
electorate, and particularly to see three projects that have reached fruition
from the investment of part of the $220 million that we have in the Mid West
Investment Plan. The first of those was the Perenjori Early Childhood Centre,
which is a new children's hub to support families in and around
Perenjori, with $1.1 million of royalties for regions funding. That is
supported also by $700 000 from Lotterywest through local government, and by Mt
Gibson Iron and Karara Mining. It is fantastic to see the private sector doing
their bit. That is a 19-place childcare facility. Another project is the Morawa
town centre, with a contribution of $5.5 million under the SuperTowns
initiative from royalties for regions funding. The first two of five stages of
that project will focus on the civic square and on relocating the freight road
away from the town centre. Finally, $330 000 of royalties for regions funding
will provide four new one-bedroom independent living units for the Morawa
aged-care units, with contributions also from the Shire of Morawa and Community
Care. It is fantastic to see initiatives now coming to fruition. They are
significant investments for that little part of the world that often does not
see outcomes like the significant investments that this government is making.
The SPEAKER :
Congratulations, minister! The house will now rise until the ringing of the
bells at two o'clock.
