Hon. Sally Talbot asks about the cost of airfares and accommodation for apprentices studying courses no longer available in WA, and the number of interstate lecturers contracted to teach these courses. The Minister responds that no interstate airfare or accommodation costs have been incurred and that two interstate RTOs are contracted to deliver two of the listed courses.

TRAINING AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT — ENROLLED
APPRENTICES
937. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
Leader of the House representing the Minister for Training and Workforce Development:
I refer to question on notice 3870
asked in the other place and the Department of Training and Workforce
Development's payment of airfares and accommodation contributions when
the off-the-job training component of an apprenticeship is no longer available
in Western Australia.
(1) What has been
the cost of airfares and accommodation contributions for those studying each of
the following courses as a result of the off-the-job training component no
longer being available in Western Australia —
(a) car and
marine trimming;
(b) furniture polishing;
(c) wood turning;
(d) floor laying, and
(e) furniture upholstery?
(2) How many
lecturers or trainers from interstate have been contracted to teach any of the
above courses in WA?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) To date there have been no
interstate airfare or accommodation costs incurred for the listed courses.
(2) The
Department of Training and Workforce Development contracts the registered
training organisation, not the individual lecturer. There are two interstate
registered training organisations contracted to deliver two of the listed
courses in Western Australia as required.
