TIDAL ENERGY AUSTRALIA
I refer to the statements made by Brian Rourke of Tidal Energy Australia on ABC Rural’s Bush Telegraph that the company’s project was ready to be signed off by the minister. (1) Did the minister or the Environmental Protection Authority give the impression or make statements that the project was ready to be signed off by the then minister? (2) If no to (1), what was the position of the EPA and the then minister as a result of the various assessments and appeals? Hon HELEN MORTON

I thank the member for some notice of this question, even though it took a long time to get here. (1) No. (2) Tidal Energy Australia referred a tidal power station proposal to the Environmental Protection Authority in February 2011. The Environmental Protection Authority is considering this new proposal in the context of the previous assessments. No environmental approval has been issued to Tidal Energy Australia for a tidal power station in Doctors Creek.
