I refer the Premier to the Australian Labor Party election policy, “working for Burrup”, which states that Labor will construct the Tom Price to Karratha road in the first term of government. (1) How does the Premier reconcile this commitment with his announcement last month that the project is not even expected to commence until late 2005? (2) Will the Premier now admit that he attempted to mislead the people of the north west last month when he claimed to have fulfilled his election commitment? (3) Why is the Premier taking the people of the north west for granted? Dr G.I. GALLOP

(1)-(3) I am not taking the people of the north west for granted. We said that we would spend $100 million on that project, and we have done exactly what we said we would do. All over the State of Western Australia we are spending money on projects for our rural and regional citizens. Of course that is one project that we are following up on. The member tried to be tricky by not including in her question the full context of the statement that we made about the Tom Price road. There is definite reference in the question to the $100 million, and that is exactly what we have put into the project.
