(1)–(2) The full details
will be provided in tomorrow's budget, presented by the Treasurer.
Mr
R.H. Cook : We are talking about yesterday's budget.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Yes, the Treasury response will be included in the budget.
Mr
M. McGowan : You would know. It is only Parliament!
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Can I make the point that for the coming year Western
Australia will see record expenditure in health and record expenditure in
education. That is a reality.
Mr
M. McGowan : As every year does.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : No—our increases in health funding and education
funding dwarf what the Labor Party did when it was in government. It is a proud
record. It has rebuilt our public health system and regenerated our schools.
The government school system is probably the only school system in this state
that is actually growing.
Dr
A.D. Buti interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Armadale, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : The program of funding has increased by an enormous amount in
both health and education, and will continue to do so. The rebuilding of our
public health system is one of the great achievements of this generation. The
introduction of independent public schools has revolutionised education in the
government school system to the point that it is only in Western Australia that
government schools are increasing their share of total enrolments. That is a
direct result of IPS. If the opposition wants to carry on being negative, as it
always is, and compare estimates with revised estimates and the like, carry on,
but look and observe the revolution that is happening in health and education
in this state. We are proud of that. It was a good federal budget, and it is a
federal budget that will support development in Western Australia.
