Mr Roger Cook replied:(1)–(3) I thank the member for the
question. Half a million Western Australians go through the doors of Sir Charles
Gairdner Hospital every year to receive world-class health care. Quite frankly,
we all understand that the health infrastructure at Sir Charles Gairdner
Hospital is ageing, which is the reason we continue to make sure that we are
making the investments to ensure that people continue—Several members

to upgrade and create a modern environment for the ED. That includes an
upgraded ED and waiting area.Mr Basil Zempilasinterjected. The Speaker:Leader of the Opposition, you have asked
the question. Let the Premier respond, please.Mr Roger Cook:It includes a fast-track area for low
complexity patients, a pit stop area for rapid assessment and treatment and
improved ambulance triage facilities. In addition, we are investing another $25
million to expand the intensive care unit by another 10 beds, with the addition
of a 10-bed unit, which will increase the capacity of the ICU to around 40
beds. We continue to make the investments to ensure that Western Australians
can have confidence that when they go to the hospital, they will receive world-class
health care. I want to acknowledge the great doctors, nurses and support staff
who work in these facilities, ensuring that they—Several members

healthcare. We know that today there are more doctors and nurses on the front
line than ever before. We have increased the health workforce by 30%, including
a massive increase of 4,400 nurses and over 1,800 new doctors and we have expanded
the number of beds by 900. Since 2021, that is the equivalent of building a
whole new Fiona Stanley Hospital plus more. We have plans for another 900 beds
as part of this year's rollout of our continued expansion and investment in our
healthcare system. I think Western Australians can have confidence in our
healthcare system. They have confidence in our healthcare system. We continue
to have confidence in the doctors and nurses who provide that health care.
