(1) Is the Minister aware of the existence of the declared rare flora Keraudrenia exastia on the Broome peninsula, specifically in the area designated as Broome Port Reserve No. 28650, and that this population is protected under the
Wildlife Conservation Act 1950
?
(2) In the light of requirements for the protection of rare flora contained within this legislation, how is it possible for the Department of Planning and Infrastructure to prepare a report that indicates a preference for the construction of a boat harbour/marina complex inland from Riddell Point that will result in the destruction of significant areas of this declared plant species?
(3) Is the Minister aware that the same site was previously investigated as the preferred site for the pearling aquaculture centre in 1993 and rejected by native title claimants and on the basis of the existence of rare flora populations in the area?
(4) Is the Minister aware that the Broome Boat Harbour site selection report makes no reference to and apparently takes no account of previous Port land use plans, specifically Broome Port Land Use Study, November 1996; Broome Port Land Use Study (amended), August 1997; Broome Port Development Guidelines, August 1997; Broome Port Land Use Study, December 1999?
(5) Is the Minister aware of a proposal by Mermaid Marine for a maritime service facility to be located adjacent to the jetty and within Roebuck Bay that included a small boat harbour at a fraction of the cost of the current option for this location?

2 The concepts prepared for the proposed Broome Boat harbour are preliminary only. If this was chosen as the site for the boat harbour, the actual harbour can be located so as not to intrude into the areas where the Keraudrenia exastia is found. 3 Yes. 4 Yes. However, the Broome Boat Harbour Steering Committee was aware of these reports, and the CEO of the Port of Broome was a committee member and provided direct input to the study. 5 I understand that Mermaid Marine were involved in discussions with the key stakeholders in relation to this issue but I am advised Mermaid Marine has not made any formal proposal that included a small boat harbour.
