73. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the Minister for Education and
Training:
(1) Is the minister able to please
inform me how many government schools in this state are —
(a) primary; and
(b) secondary?
(2) How many have canteen facilities
on campus, by —
(a) primary; and
(b) secondary?
(3) Of those campuses with canteens,
how many are in operation —
(a) five days a week;
(b) four days a week;
(c) three days a week;
(d) two days a week;
(e) one day a week; or
(f) are not in operation at all?

(1) There are 818 in total, being —
(a) 558 primary schools, including
remote community schools; and
(b) 112 secondary schools.
There are also 18 community
kindergartens; 58 schools that cater for both primary and secondary years of
schooling; 66 education support schools, centres, language development centres
and other specialist facilities; and six distance education schools.
(2)–(3) Parents
and citizens associations, school boards and, in some cases, private providers
run school canteens. The department does not collect this information
centrally. If the honourable member is looking for some specific information, I
am happy to provide a briefing for him if he would like.
