The Member may be interested to know that the Liberal-National Government has made the biggest investment in bus service kilometres in over a decade. With over 11.3 million additional service kilometres annually, the network has increased by over 20%.
The figures below represent injuries/incidents as reported to Transperth by the various contracted service providers.
(1)
(a) 268 = 3.86 injuries per million passenger boardings.
(b) 345 = 4.9 injuries per million passenger boardings.
(c) 355 = 4.63 injuries per million passenger boardings.
(d) 375 = 4.65 injuries per million passenger boardings.
(e) 372 = 4.45 injuries per million passenger boardings.
(f) 493 = 5.88 injuries per million passenger boardings; and
(g) 194 as at 31 December 2014. Note: The 2014/15 YTD injury rate equates to 4.6 injuries per million passenger boardings.
(2) Insurance claims are submitted directly to and handled by the Public Transport Authority's insurer, RiskCover. This includes both public liability and motor vehicle claims.
(3) Unknown. See response to part (2).
(4) If an injury resulting from an incident such as a slip, trip or fall is reported to the driver, the driver will complete an Incident Report. The incident is investigated internally by the bus contractor and the information will be forwarded to RiskCover if a claim is made. If the injury is as a result of a traffic accident, the driver will complete an Incident Report. The incident is investigated internally by the bus contractor and by the Police in circumstances where the Police have attended (due to a reported injury or major disruption to traffic). If a major bus accident did occur involving passenger deaths and/or multiple serious injuries on the bus, the PTA would investigate it, however no such incident has occurred in recent years.
