835. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to community reports
that two adult male prisoners at Casuarina Prison recently got onto the roof of
unit 18.
(1) Are the
community reports correct and did any adult prisoners get on the roof or within
the boundaries of unit 18?
(2) If yes, how many adult prisoners were involved, and on
what date or dates did this occur?
(3) How long were the adult prisoners on the roof and/or
within the boundaries of unit 18?
(4) What impact did this event have on the youth detainees in
unit 18 and their out-of-cell hours?

following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Corrective
Services.
(1) Yes.
(2) Two prisoners were involved, and the date was 5 September
2022.
(3) Approximately one hour and 12 minutes.
(4) There was
no interaction at any time between the adult prisoners and the youth detainees.
Detainees were secured in their cells for the duration of the incident.
