HON SHELLEY ARCHER - RESIGNATION FROM AUSTRALIAN LABOR PARTY
Did the Premier ask Shelley Archer to resign from the Australian Labor Party over the release of confidential government information to Brian Burke? Mr A.J. CARPENTER

AnswerView source ↗

Whenever it was - some time in February or March - I gave a very thorough and detailed account of my reaction to that evidence that was given at the Corruption and Crime Commission. As a result, Hon Shelley Archer has been stripped of the positions she previously held by dint of her place in the Parliament. She is now a backbench member of the upper house of state Parliament where - as we know because the member for Cottesloe said so - no-one can be trusted. Yesterday he asked me whether I trusted Hon Shelley Archer and in the next breath he said that he did not trust the upper house. He does not trust Hon Norman Moore; he does not trust Hon George Cash - he does not trust any of his fellow members in the upper house. Guess what? They do not trust him either. Point of Order Mr C.J. BARNETT : I do not want to persist with a trivial debate, but I made none of those statements; that is a fabrication. The SPEAKER : A point of order could probably be raised about a member suggesting that something said was a fabrication. Under standing orders, points of order are not to be used to interrupt debate. I do not think there is a point of order. Questions without Notice Resumed Mr A.J. CARPENTER : Indeed there is not. Yesterday the member for Cottesloe freely and openly said that he did not trust the upper house of the state Parliament. There was an outrageous howling at the moon about whether I trusted Hon Shelley Archer, and almost in the next breath the person who was howling the loudest at the moon stood up and said that he did not trust not only Shelley Archer but also apparently no-one in the upper house. By way of either interjection or follow-up question, the Leader of the Opposition has asked me whether I asked Hon Shelley Archer to resign because of the matters revealed at the CCC. I gave members opposite an answer, but I will ask the Leader of the Opposition a question. Dr G.G. Jacobs interjected. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : Does the member for Roe want me to repeat it? Dr G.G. Jacobs : Yes. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : I could repeat the entire answer from go to whoa, but I will round off my answer - Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! Mr A.J. CARPENTER : Anyone who asserts that the education standards in our schools today are inferior to what they were years ago has not sat in this place for very long. The inability of members opposite to understand very basic information never ceases to amaze me. Their ignorance, stupidity and utter blindness to logic are astounding. The fact that they get elected to this Parliament says something quite profound and is somewhat disturbing. Has the Leader of the Opposition asked Hon Anthony Fels to resign from the Liberal Party?
