DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION — 2015–16
BUDGET SAVINGS
1352. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to the Department of Education's savings
target in the 2015–16 budget under the workforce renewal policy of
$24.3 million for this financial year.
(1) How much
of that target has been met to date and what measures have been implemented to
meet it so far?
(2) What additional measures have been identified to meet the
total target for the full financial year?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The
2015–16 target has been met. As the Department of Education's
2015–16 budget is higher than in 2014–15, the department will
absorb the target in 2015–16. Savings are being made in other areas of
the department's operations including its insurance premium, teacher
housing and transport costs, and superannuation to assist it to offset the
savings required. The workforce renewal policy will not affect schools during
the 2015 or 2016 calendar years.
