My question is to whoever is representing the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for State Development, who is currently missing. I refer to my question without notice 199 of Tuesday, 24 September 2002, regarding the Jervoise Bay facility. The parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for State Development stated that - The development is on time and within budget. Given that the date on which the Jervoise Bay facility was to be fully operational was stated to be July 2002 in the “Jervoise Bay Project News” of December 1999 - (1) Is the Jervoise Bay facility currently fully operational; and, if not, how far from being fully operational is it? (2) What is the total cost of the project at this time? (3) How many large fabricators have agreed to set up at Jervoise Bay? (4) What firm commitment has the Government had from the United States Navy to use the Jervoise Bay facility? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. I provide this response on behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for State Development - (1) In June 2000 Cabinet endorsed a revised development costing $188 million, with a completion date of March 2003. The island breakwater, dredging and civil works, including the 15 000 and 3 000-tonne load-out wharves, have been constructed, commissioned and used by industry. These were completed on time and within budget. The on-site facilities are scheduled for completion in April 2003. Although currently two weeks behind schedule, the facilities are being completed within budget. (2) The estimated total project cost is $188 million, including $80 million in federation fund grants. This estimate includes the costs associated with the fabrication precinct, the technology precinct and associated roads and services, and the costs of meeting development conditions. To date, $160 million has been spent. (3) Several fabricators have submitted tenders for major works to be undertaken using the development. (4) None.
