(a) a letter dated 7 May 2008, circulated to Members of Parliament by the Curtin Student Guild stating that teaching, nursing and allied health worker shortages are particularly evident in rural areas; and
(b) the recent launch of a JB Fairfax Rural Journalism Scholarship in New South Wales,
and I ask, -
(1) Is the Minister aware that research has shown that graduates from rural and regional areas are four times more likely to work in those areas?
(2) Will the Western Australian Government set aside funding to provide annual scholarships for students from rural and regional areas to study teaching, nursing, allied health or medicine?
(3) If no to (2), why not?
(4) If yes to (2), -
(a) what amounts will be allocated per scholarship; and
(b) when will the scholarships be implemented?
