I refer the minister to the announcement by the then Minister for State Development, Hon Clive Brown, during the last state election campaign that resource companies seeking to increase tonnage under state agreement acts will be required to pay full local government rates in exchange for state government agreement regarding the increased tonnage. (1) Is this still the government’s policy? (2) Have any decisions been made to implement this policy? (3) If so, which local authorities and resource companies are involved, and what are the arrangements in each case? Hon JON FORD

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for the question. (1)-(3) As I understand it, all issues regarding rating are under review by the Minister for State Development. I am happy to get the details of the questions and get back to the member with a response. Hon Norman Moore : Aren’t you involved? Hon JON FORD : Yes, I will be involved when we get to different consultation processes in cabinet.
